Observations of the Day – June 9, 2019

Party hearty and pitch a little tentram tantrum!

Observations for the Day:

  • When my kids were little, they used to call temper tantrums “tentrum tantrums”. When I change my presser foot to my walking foot, I always pitch a “tentrum tantrum”! I pitched a bigger one than usual yesterday because this is what I have:
…a perfectly good machine

and this is the machine I used on Friday

This is what I deal with:

and I understand that the baby lock has a built-in walking foot, so I was doubly frustrated. My fingers are just too fat and clumsy for that little screw! They have a refurbished crescendo for $3500 at my LQS and Hubby, for some reason, said no. I was in love. Anyway, here’s the pillowcase that I made in the class:

  • I finally started actually quilting Baby the Biscuit’s quilt. Hopefully it will be done in the next several weeks and I will have pictures to show you soon.
  • I also am starting a Dancing Diamonds quilt for Sonshine. You can find the link here. I hope to make 4 to 6 panels, depending on size, and put them together to make a bigger quilt.
  • Big news! Baby the Biscuit got married on June 1, 2019. Here is a gallery of pictures I have just from cell phones. The professional ones will come soon.
  •  I had great hair for this wedding – I think the stylist used about three cans of hairspray. At some point my brother decided that he would start sticking glow sticks in my hair so there’s that!

We had a plan A, wedding outside, reception inside. Plan B, if it was raining, wedding inside, reception inside. But we had no plan C for if it was beautiful all day and then decided to rain just as the wedding was beginning. The pre-wedding photos show sun, sun, and more sun but the ones closer to the ceremony photos show the storm clouds coming up. As Alex walked me down the aisle, there was a big flash of lightning. Then there was a big thunderclap and the preacher said to me, “We need to move this inside”. I heard someone say” there’s Amy!” so I calmly told the preacher, “No, we are staying out here until she walks down the aisle and we get the pictures!” She came down the aisle with her dad in all her beauteous glory and the rain held off long enough for us to have the ceremony outside. Then we went inside for an epic party. I discovered that I’m way too old to party past midnight. I think I danced more that night more that I have in the last 20 years. It was awesome. The happy couple have just returned from a wonderful honeymoon in St. Lucia (so they aren’t quite so happy now cuz they return to the real world tomorrow).

We drove from Rome, Georgia to Dallas, Texas for the wedding with four grandchildren. I think they were alien pod people because they were really good for the trip. The weather, however, not so much. Check out this tornado we manage to out run. It was scary–storm chasers, newsstands and emergency responders everywhere. The only reason we continued, was that traffic was flowing on the opposite side of the freeway.

Hubby and I just celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary. As you know I love dogs and hubby got me this beautiful bracelet. It’s made from gold and silver, has black diamonds and PUPPY PAWS! I love it.

Back to our Southeast Asia trip, in Thailand, they don’t always use bathroom tissue–they use a kitchen sprayer. Luckily, I had my handy dandy pack of web wipes and I make sure to always have toilet paper in my backpack!

Next, we visited an elephant rescue where we got to actually feed the elephants. It’s interesting that in Thailand, riding elephants is illegal where it is not next door in Cambodia. This rescue had its very own Kitler.

After that we went to see a long neck tribe (you can find out more about them here) and we bought a handmade pillow cover. What is interesting about it is that the woman who made it is now blind and that was one of the last ones that she made. We are going to have it framed and display it in our home.

We also bought these wonderful scarves (I kept one and gave one to mama) a hand embroidered wallet, a hand carved wooden elephant and a set of coasters. I really enjoy buying the unique things and not mass-produced souvenirs

Next time, we are off to the temples!

Congrats on the wedding! And Wow! Looks like a fun and interesting trip! Two thoughts: how do those people wash their necks (the ones wearing the “slinky’s 😄), and that bracelet is beautiful! Right down my alley too! That’s probably why you didn’t get the new sewing machine. 😉 🤷‍♀️
