There’s never a bad day for a photo bomb!

Observations of the day

      • Extreme sewing is not for the faint of heart. I wanted to do a practice Hobo bag since they’re all the rage these days. It’s reversible, cute and pretty easy to make (check out the video tutorial here). As I am pinning a part of the paper pattern onto the main part so I won’t lose it, I feel a prick in my thumb. I looked down and sticking out of it is a pin, and it’s not a small pin – it’s one of those big, flat, flowerhead plastic pin thingies. It’s not just a small prick as that sucker is securely impaled in there. How did I do that? I couldn’t tell you. Pulled it out, washed off the blood and applied Band-Aid #1. You know what the funny part of all this is? The little piece I pinned down wasn’t really even part of the pattern – it was the gauge for scale to make sure that my printer was printing at the same measurements as the pattern in the tutorial. After I got it all sewn together, I had to inside-out it through one of the (really small, it even seemed microscopic but wasn’t really) handles. That also was a task into itself. Even using a professional turning tool, when I finished I was sweating and exhausted but my arms were all swole up like Popeye after eating a can of spinach. Then, as I was ironing the wrinkles out of the bag from turning, I burnt my finger. Apply Band-Aid #2. Somehow between this and finishing the bag I managed to get a blood blister on the pad of the thumb that was impaled with the flower headed pin (Band-Aid #3). Here’s a picture of the bag and my poor hand.

      •  As promised last time, here is number one daughter’s quilt.

        • In the last week of August, hubby and I went to hell. Well, Dallas TX but same difference. It was so very hot there! We were there for Baby the Biscuit’s and Boo’s baby shower. It was so nice to see Boo’s family and their Baylor friends that we have come to know and love over the years. Then this happened.

          • Remember, the infamous “photo “that’s on my landing page? If you don’t, click here for the story. Due to this bit of delight and wonderfulness on the inter webs, Sonshine doesn’t read the blog posts (claims he has PTSD). Baby the Biscuit doesn’t read them either, (probably because she was so heavily involved in the story of the photo). Neither one of them even tell their friends that I have a business. Imagine Biscuit’s surprise when I was chatting to her boss at the shower and whipped out a business card featuring said photo. I may have given out more than one at the party. Maybe she won’t find out!

            • Check out this free pattern from the National Quilter’s Circle. It’s the “Too Hot to Handle” casserole cover (free pattern) and it even has a video tutorial. If anybody knows where I can get a reasonably priced 9 x 13 casserole dish without any writing on the bottom please let me know.

              • We have a 2023 Ford Bronco Wild Track. It’s this beautiful, orangey red color and it does all of the Ford-back driving things (Ford-back driving is a term for offloading that my Sonshine used when he was little).

              • Recently number one daughter and her husband (O’Flaherty) along with Hubby and I  and another couple, went up to a cabin in Helen, Georgia for Labor Day weekend (thank you Deb and Ken for the assist). Take a look at this video (safe to download – I promise!). IMG_0168

                • Wonder why I called my son-in-law, O’Flaherty? He has one of those “O-apostrophe” names, but it’s so much more fun to say “O’Flaherty” in a Scottish accent. I actually dictated this and every time I said his name, I actually used a Scottish accent. I get so many eye rolls when I do it, but I think my impression is spot on. And now you are going to be saying O’Flaherty in a Scottish accent for the rest of the day. You’re welcome!

                  • We named our Bronco “Patience” because it took almost 3 years to get her. Ford was so overwhelmed with interest in buying the new Broncos that, along with Covid and supply chains issues, it caused an extremely long wait time to finally get them. This is a tag that I sublimated for her.

                    • Speaking of sublimation, Hubby and I recently had a one-on-one class with Nicky Adamkiewicz (affectionately known by me as “Nicky with the y and ALL the letters in her last name) of The Sassy Subber. She is the queen of sublimation, a graphic designer, a Yankee, the quintessential enabler, a gifted teacher and I am so very proud to call her my friend. I was having trouble with learning how to do mockups on Photoshop so I signed up for an online zoom class with her and asked her if she minded if hubby sat in. Hubby, as per usual, was late. She demystified the mystery that is Photoshop and left us dazzled and excited to begin our Photoshop journey. Unfortunately, we had to leave on the above-mentioned trip with number one daughter so I’ll be starting on those soon. I took a bazillion pics to use for backgrounds though! If you are into sublimation, visit her Etsy shop here. Also, join Sassy Nation on Facebook where I am the unofficial president of the Marvin Peardon fan club- a club that doesn’t really exist- but that’s a story for another day.

Well, I guess that’s about it for this week. I’m really trying to post a blog every week but it I know it’s been two weeks since the last one. I also have a newsletter coming out for my store – sign up for it and get five dollars off should you decide to honor me with a purchase. Have a great week remember to like, share and make me famous!
