Big geese fly better and THIS happened!

Observations of the Day:

– My Amy, my baby the biscuit, got engaged on July 3rd! The boyfriend (henceforth known as the fiancé), called a while back and asked for our permission AND said he wanted to do it here in Rome while they were visiting the week of the 4th. It was soooo amazing and romantic.

– I told her I had won a lunch for four at the “Woodlands Grille” in Barnsley Gardens and the only day available while they were here was the 3rd. The day before (2nd), I took her for a mani/pedi while hubby and daughter #1 took the (now) fiancé to view the grounds. When we finished, I took the biscuit to lunch and she insisted on having the them meet us because she didn’t want him to be “alone” LOL. What a mess! I argued that she saw him all the time and I wanted alone time with her but to no avail. They were 45 minutes away and had to make up an excuse why it took them so long to get to the restaurant.

– The morning of, she was wondering what to wear and showed me several dresses. I urged her to wear the one that she said she had worn on their first date. Turns out, he also wore the same color shirt that he wore on their that date so there are some great pics of them holding a picture of them in the same clothes.

– We are almost to the venue and the biscuit informs us that she has to go to the bathroom. We absolutely cannot let her go into that restaurant! It was also amusing to know that the convo between hubby and (now) fiancé was a reenactment of the day prior. It would have been out of character for hubby not to point out things as we passed, and we didn’t want the biscuit to think anything was amiss.

– After parking, I suggest showing the (now) fiancé “the ruins” since we were a little early for our reservations. The biscuit grumbled a bit, but we were off! As we approached the area, the biscuit saw the layout and wondered if there was a wedding going on. She then stated that we couldn’t go through there. I grabbed her hand, kissed her on the cheek and said, “Maybe you should go on through there anyway.” Then hubby and I turned around and walked away (there may or may not have been some backwards walking on our parts).

– The (now) fiancé took her hand and led her up a path that had white-linen covered tables along it. On the tables were pictures of them chronicling their lives from when they met at 17 to the present. At the top of the path, they turned into a grove of trees that had a decorated gazebo. Right outside the gazebo was the last table with an empty frame, representing the future that they would build together. Then he led her inside, dropped to one knee and she said yes!!!

– After a few more pictures, he told her that we actually did have reservations for lunch (we did not) and that he would take her to meet up with us. They came to Town Hall in the resort where we had planned an engagement party and friends and family had come from all over the country to help us celebrate. Thank goodness she said yes!!! She had no idea this was coming, and you could see her visibly start when she saw everyone. It was a wonderful time.

– We then went to our house for two days of partying by the pool. The nuptials will take place on June 1st, 2019 in Dallas.

– What? This is a quilting blog? OK, here is block 4 (spoked wheel) of the Lexington Sampler: I was singing “Miss You So Badly” with Jimmy Buffett and was thankful that he knows how to correctly use an adverb when I finished.

– I had this in my notes – what do you call a deer with no eyes? No “ideer”! I have no ideer why I put it there, nor do I have any ideer what the “SP” notation means that was next to it . EDIT: SP means “Sassy Pants” – my granddaughter told this joke to me.

Block 5 (pinwheel block): As usual I didn’t read through all the directions and was worried when it came out bigger than the other blocks. A quick check told me that was correct. Billy Squire was singing about “The Stroke” when I was done.

– Hubby and I were in the car and he uttered those words that I love to hear from him – “You’re right.” I tried to get him to repeat it for video, but he wouldn’t.

– This is block 6 (wheel block) and I was a little worried because I haven’t made any flying geese in a while. I was grumbling because I thought that since they were so darn big, my errors would be even more visible. Turns out, bigger is better cuz they came out pretty good. “Red Solo Cup” by Toby Keith was playing at the end.

– I started cutting out the bonus block but haven’t got back to it yet. ‘Twas scheduled for right now, but the power is out so I’m catching up on here.

– The other day I shared with hubby that my eyes were burning. He said I must be feeling guilty about something. “Nah”, I replied. “I just saw you naked”.

– Next up, bonus block, Summer at the Cabin BOW and yet another new Christmas BOW.

– Until next time!

  1. My son got married this year on June 2. After over eleven years with a girl I love. Enjoy every minute. I still love your blog, thank you as it always gives me a smile. It is about life not just quilting.
